BN not Wins, Pakatan not Lost

Before this, we should give a big applause for the voters of Manek Urai for their high 87% turnout of 12,293 voters.
PAS won by tiny margin of 65 votes. BN again did not win any of 6 by-elections in the peninsular. However, PAS lost 1,287 votes just in 16 months from last election.
PR may blame BN for all their dirty tactics, either scare tactics or development threats. But Najib is not Pak Lah, he know the games, and he know the rules of games well.
Probably the "unity talk" is the main factor, it unexpectedly caused the infighting within PAS and cause "confident crisis" within the PR coalitions. In this case, we should respect Tok Guru to hold the coalition even he knew that this would affect the supports if did not handle carefully.
BN should thank Najib and KJ for their successful tactics in splitting up PAS and PR using race and religion issue with "unity talk".
However, I think this result served a good wake-up call to Pakatan Rakyat.
Since 308, Pakatan thought that they will win all by-elections until next General Election. They will then move into Putrajaya and all other states governments.
They start celebrating without forgetting infighting. They fight from photo scandal in Selangor, losing power in Perak, councillor issue in Penang, pig abattoir in Kedah, PAS flirtation with UMNO and now, gangster in Selangor.
So, it is time to wake up, Pakatan.
Pakatan must know that Najib is not anyone else, BN will not wait there to be defeated and Pakatan is still under probation period.

khian beng,

You noticed that I hardly mentioned this by-election in my blog? Want to know why?

I didn't know what kind of results I had wanted in the absence of the independent candidates!

Had there been a 3rd choice, I would have wanted a PAS victory (for the sake of PR) but with a lesser majority and most important of all, a sizable capture of votes by the independent candidates, collectively more than or at least close to BN's vote tally

In such a scenario, PAS would be reminded not to be arrogant and UMNO that their reforms is not sincere enough.

But what to do without any independent candidates? Now UMNO/BN will use this as a 'swing' in their favor. I hope I don't vomit when I hear their propaganda over the next few weeks!

Where are the independents when we need them?

Want to know what else I think we need? We need DAP and PKR to suffer a by-election like what PAS just did to wake the whole PR up. Both needs a "kanchiong" win by the slimmest of margin so as to wake up to the big picture!!!

And finally we need a 3rd by-election where the UMNO candidate loses his deposit! To tell UMNO that once we can get the PR house in order, they are finished!

Wishful thinking on my part!

Having complained about the above, I must not forget to congratulate the voters of Manek Urai. 87% turnout is a good turn out for democracy!!! Well done people.

Wow this is fast. Well written.
And yes, the turn out is extremely good. I am transport business is quite good yesterday. May be we would see more than 100% turn out in the next by election.
Having said that, I agree about the points on wake up call. Hopefully we have a stronger PR after this. Then we would not 辜负Manek Urai voters 的一番好意
