Penang government launched its e-Perolehan system on 17 July 2008 and became the No.1 state in Malaysia to officially implement the "open tender" policy. The government wish to create a new scenario of fair and transparent purchasing system for all people. The system aims to prevent corruption, abuse of power and others caused by the close tender system. This policy is currently apply to those items above 200K, which is open to all Malaysian.
However, as the system is newly implemented, it may have many things to improve and rectify. All system has both pros and cons. Many people that benefited from old system may also not want this to be successful. However, we believe that with good intention, this policy will be supported by all.
As Guan Eng said, we hope from now on, all people do not need any "kabel politik" anymore. What they need is only "kabel komputer".
